The nerve anesthetized is the nasopalatine nerve, bilaterally. The areas anesthetized are the anterior portion of the hard palate from the mesial of the right 1st premolar to mesial of the left 1st premolar. The landmarks are the central incisors and incisive papilla with the target area being the incisive foramen located beneath the incisive papilla. The needle approaches the injection site at a 45 degree angle toward the incisive papilla into the palatal mucosa lateral to the incisive papilla. There is pressure anesthesia before and during the injection with osseous contact.
